Arthur Lewis Studebaker
Arthur Lewis Studebaker, 88, of Dune Acres and Indianapolis, passed away on June 21, 2017, in Indianapolis. Born on May 17, 1929, at the family home in Dune Acres, Ind., to Alden Koch and Naomi Victoria Chellberg Studebaker, both of whom preceded him in death.
On August 17, 1957, in West Lafayette, he married Janet Ellis Newman, who preceded him in death on January 17, 2000.
Arthur graduated from Chesterton High School in Chesterton, in 1947 and served his country in the Army from 1951-1952. He earned a BS in Industrial Distribution in 1959 from Purdue University, and then earned a MS in Industrial Distribution in 1963, also from Purdue University. He was a math and science teacher as well as Director of Productions at Shortridge High School in Indianapolis from 1959-1985.
Arthur was also the co-owner, along with his wife Janet, of Studebaker Properties from 1970-2001. He was also a member of the Studebaker Driver’s Club and a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association. He was a volunteer at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Chellberg Farm for the St. Lucia and Midsummer Swedish Programs.
Survived by his daughters, Heidi Studebaker of Dune Acres and Indianapolis and Lisa (Luis) Studebaker-Alayza of New Palestine; six grandchildren, Marissa Sullivan, Cara Sullivan, Kris Studebaker, Lauren Alayza, Luis Erquiaga, and Ricardo Alayza; and great-grandchildren, Kyan Studebaker, Tyler Studebaker, Ayden Alayza, and Liam Alayza.
He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Gayle Lyn Studebaker on August 26, 1985, and his brother, Alden Henry Studebaker on December 5, 2014.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Dune Acres Clubhouse, 1 Clubhouse Drive, Dune Acres, IN. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time of service at the Dune Acres Clubhouse.
