Festival returns with country singers, fireworks

NEW PALESTINE — Organizers are expecting a day and night full of fun, food, entertainment and a fireworks display Saturday evening. That’s when the New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce plays host to Summer Fest 2017.

The annual event is designed to give area businesses a chance to thank their supporters and for residents to celebrate the summer season.

This year’s event is taking place a couple of weeks sooner than the annual Fourth of July summer celebration the chamber has planned in years past, but there still will be fireworks at the end of the night, organizers said.

Summer Fest 2017 kicks off the evening before, at 5:30 p.m. Friday, with a New Pal Opening Act event featuring a beer and wine garden area, food and a family dinning place.

The party will be at the intersection of Depot Street and Main Street located along the west side of the New Palestine Museum located at 11 E. Main St.

Main Street in New Palestine — also known as U.S. 52 — will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday to around midnight. Organizers are bringing in more than 60 different food distributors and other vendors to fill the street.

U.S. 52 will reopen after vendors have moved out, barricades have been removed and the streets have been cleaned.
