Educational event planned for parents

NEW PALESTINE — Brookville Road Community Church has an event to help parents and grandparents of children of all ages sharpen their skills.

Zion Lutheran School Principal Kristie Sombke will be at Brookville Road from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 28 for a lesson on how to implement effective methods of training your children to be responsible, respectful and caring adults. The church is located at 7480 W. U.S. 52.

Sombke has been trained with Love and Logic Institute. She has practiced this method at home and at school.

Area church offers Monday service

CUMBERLAND — “Monday: The Bookend of the Weekend” is a summer worship service at 6:30 p.m. Mondays at St. John United Church of Christ, 11910 E. Prospect St.

It’s a weekday worship service for those who cannot attend on Sunday or just want to attend an evening of worship and music.

Group serves weekly hot dog lunches

FORTVILLE — Fortville United Methodist Church, 125 E. Staat St., offers its Hot Dogs in the Park lunch events Wednesdays through July 28.

Free hot dogs, chips, beverage and dessert will be available, and crafts or a Bible story will be shared with young children.

The cookout is open to the public. Lunch will be served in the church Fellowship Hall if there is inclement weather.

Philadelphia church offers half-off sale

PHILADELPHIA — After its June 3 rummage sale, a half-off sale is going on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 10) at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 2265 W. U.S. 40.

In addition to books and other rummage sale items, lunch will be available.

Breakfast, Italian dinner upcoming

McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville United Methodist Church will serve an Italian Night dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday (June 10).

A community breakfast is planned for 7:30 to 10 a.m. June 17.

Service to feature singing, dinner

KNIGHTSTOWN — The Murray Family will sing in a homecoming service at 10 a.m. Sunday at Knightstown Church of God, 199 W. Grant St.

Dinner will follow the service. Afternoon singing runs from 2 to 4 p.m.

Recycling event slated at church

GREENFIELD — Electronics Recycling Day is planned from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday (June 10) at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9, Greenfield.

The church and CGS Services will be on hand to receive electronic items for recycling.

The following items will be accepted: backup power supplies, LCD monitors, calculators, mainframe computers, cameras, microphones, cellphones, monitors (CRTs), computer boards, personal computers, computer keyboards, power cables, copiers, printers, DVD players, scanners, electronic motors, stereo equipment, fax machines, telephone systems, game systems, televisions, laptops, typewriters, laser disc players and VCRs.

Batteries will not be collected at the event.

A free-will offering will be accepted.
