GREENFIELD — A Republican caucus appointed local attorney Randy Sorrell to the county council.

It’s the second time Sorrell, who also serves as town attorney for Ingalls, has been tapped to finish the term of another council member.

Sorrell finished a two-year stint on the council Dec. 31; he will now fulfill the remaining 1.5 years of Tom Roney’s term as the District 2 representative.

Roney died last month, leaving the seat vacant. He had represented a large portion of western Hancock County for nearly 30 years.

Sorrell, who practices law in Fortville, served roughly two years on the council after being appointed by a caucus to fulfill two years of Marc Huber’s term as an at-large councilman.

Last year, he unsuccessfully ran in a Republican primary for the District 2 commissioner seat.
