FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon High School band and guard participants are celebrating after a successful year at competition.

The Mt. Vernon Indoor Percussion Ensemble earned state runner up at the Indiana Percussion Association finals recently, and the varsity guard team earned 8th place at their state finals, wrote Maria Bond, Mt. Vernon High School director of community relations in an email to the Daily Reporter.

The school district’s indoor percussion team had not participated in state contest since 2014 because the team didn’t have enough participants at the time; they now boast 17 members and will have 23 next year, Bond said.

The 8th grade band earned a gold rating at the Indiana State School Music Association organization contest recently as well, she said.
