Thomas David Long, of Indianapolis died Sunday February 12, 2017. He was 73 years old. Tom was born in Indianapolis on October 26, 1943, to Thomas and Margaret (Hopkins) Long.

Tom graduated from high school, and entered into the military serving three years in the Army during the Vietnam era. After honorably serving his country, Tom still felt the need to serve others. He found his calling in the Indianapolis Fire Department. He was a dedicated firefighter from 1966 until his retirement in 1987. Tom was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, and a devoted father to his children.

He is survived by his children, Erica Messer (Tracey), Aaron Long (Julie), Sarah Wilson, Daniel Long (Mary), and Joshua Long; fifteen grandchildren, and his constant companion, Mamie Cloer.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin Long; his baby sister, Dorothy; and sister, Charlene Cook.

Visitation for Thomas Long is from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 16, at Hendryx Mortuary-Cumberland Chapel, 11636 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, 46229. Funeral services are at 11 a.m., Friday, February 17, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 6950 E. Raymond St. Indianapolis, 46239 with one additional hour of visitation at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at New Palestine Cemetery.
