M. Girtrue (Groves) Brawner, 89, of McCordsville, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017, at Hancock Regional Hospice. She was born on February 26, 1927, in Springfield, Tennessee as the daughter of Virtrue and Frances (Brewer) Groves.
She graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School in Franklin, Kentucky in 1945. She married Chester M. Brawner on January 18, 1947, in Bowling Green, Ky.
Girtrue had worked as a clerk for Ayr-Way in Indianapolis. Previously, she worked as a nurse aide for Bowling Green Hospital in Kentucky. She enjoyed collecting angels, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Girtrue is survived by her sons, Carlis M. (Gail) Brawner and Jerry L. (Penny) Brawner, both of Fortville; daughter, Mary Anne (Earl Lott) Brawner of Fortville; six grandchildren, Dar (Jimmie) Johnson, Chris Brawner, Dave Brawner, Michelle (John) Bowles, Jeremy Brawner and Crystal (Brandon) Merideth; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren Brawner, Evan Brawner, Livia Brawner and Johnathan Bowles.
Girtrue was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Billie Groves.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, January 11, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 East Staat St, Fortville, IN 46040 with viewing two hours prior to the service. Pastor Jonathan Manship will be officiating. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
