David K. Edwards Sr., 62, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1954, in Monticello, Ky., as the son of James H. Edwards and Lois (Sexton) Shoemaker.
David graduated from John Marshall High School in Indianapolis in 1972. He married Diana (Gross) on July 14, 1979 in Indianapolis. He worked in maintenance for Southern Hancock Schools in New Palestine for over 20 years.
David was a member of the NHRA and the NRA. He was a muscle car enthusiast and he also enjoyed bowling, softball, Nascar and collecting Hotwheels.
David is survived by his wife, Diana Edwards of Greenfield; daughters, Melissa (Anthony) Nugent and Shannon (Jon) Craney, both of Greenfield; son, David K. (Kristen) Edwards Jr. of Greenfield; sisters, Debbie (Dennis) Walton of Greenfield and Rhonda (Tom) Batsche of Lancaster, Kentucky; brother, George (Denise) Sigler of Danville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kierstin, Hayden, Haylee, Ava and Finley; and great-granddaughter, Kourtlynn.
David was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Charles Shoemaker; and stepsister, Janet.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 28, also at the mortuary. Brother Alvin Sexton will be officiating. The family would like to request that you please drive your muscle car in the procession to Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent directly to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. The family would also like to request for everyone to take home one of David’s hats as a keepsake.
