GREENFIELD — An Eastern Hancock Schools teacher and basketball coach pleaded not guilty Friday to the drunken-driving charges she faces.
Sharon Doud, 47, was arrested earlier this month while driving in Fortville and was charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated, each a Class A misdemeanor.
Doud appeared in Hancock County Superior Court 2 Friday morning alongside her attorney, Jillian Keating of Carmel. Doud told a judge she was not guilty of the allegations, and a second hearing was set for Oct. 13, though Doud is not required to appear.
Doud is a sixth-grade language arts and social studies teacher at Eastern Hancock Middle School. She was hired as the head varsity girls basketball coach at Eastern Hancock High School last summer. She continues to hold both positions.
Doud’s future with the school district remains unclear. School officials declined to comment on the case after Doud was arrested and did not return requests for comment Friday.
A Fortville police officer stopped Doud around 11 p.m. Sept. 2 for driving erratically on South Maple Street in Fortville, police said. She admitted to officers she had been drinking while at a concert, according to the police report.
A field sobriety test showed Doud had a .217 percent blood-alcohol content, almost three times the legal limit. She was arrested and booked into the Hancock County Jail but released on $600 bond, records show.
Doud faces one Class A misdemeanor of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person and one Class A misdemeanor of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 percent or more.
Each charge carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
