Joseph S. Thompson, 99, Greenfield, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016, in Greenfield. He was born on October 31, 1916 in Hancock County to the late Robert and Hazel (Moore) Wood Thompson.
Joseph graduated from Greenfield High School and would attend Purdue University. He married Lois H. Hooton on September 6, 1941. Joseph served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 during WWII which included a tour France. He attended the Greenfield Christian Church and was active in the Elks Lodge, and American Legion. He was also the Postmaster in Greenfield for several years.
Surviving Joseph is his son, Ramon Thompson of Pekin, Ind.; daughter, Jo Nell (Donald) Polston of Greenfield; grandchildren, Chris (Dana) Thompson, Barry (Leiah) Thompson, Kelsi (Jeremy) Bricker, Kyle Westfall; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents listed above; wife, Lois Hooton Thompson; son, Roger Thompson; two sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be private with burial at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 West Main St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
