George H. Greenwalt, 91, Indianapolis, passed away August 22, 2016. He was born July 3, 1925, to the late George E. and Hattie Meredith Greenwalt.
He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII, and married JoAnn Bise. George was a firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department for 29 years, retiring as District Chief. He was a past member of Christ Church Cathedral and a current member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. George was a 62 year mason, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a past Shriner.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. with funeral services at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 25.
George is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, JoAnn Greenwalt; children, Diana Kelley (Larry) and George M. Greenwalt; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
