New Pal golf outing slated for next month

The New Palestine Baseball Backers are hosting a golf outing on Saturday, Sept. 17. The event is being held at The Links Golf Course (11425 N. PR Links Lane, New Palestine).

Registration is open until Sept. 2. The cost to participate is $300 per foursome, which includes a box lunch, cart rental and dinner.

The event schedule will begin with sign-in at 11:30 a.m., a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and dinner and awards at 5:30 p.m.

Contests will include: best scores (1st and 2nd place), closest to the pin, longest drive, putting contest, blind drawings, raffles and giveaways.

‘Greatest 25’ will be re-broadcast Saturday

For any of you who might have missed the earlier broadcast of “The Greatest 25 Sports Stories in the History of Indiana” on WFNI-FM 93.5 and 1070-AM The Fan, you’re in luck.

The show will be re-broadcast this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both radio stations. The show also can be heard live by logging on to the stations’ website.

The show offers listeners a journey through the state’s top sports stories and the coaches and players who lived them. The program includes interviews of the sportswriters and sportscasters who covered them.

Community Foundation raising scholarship funds

The seventh annual Carolyn Johnson “Scholarship for Tomorrow’s Teacher” fundraiser is being held at the Hancock County Community Foundation office (312 E. Main St., Greenfield) through today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Miss Johnson was a teacher, coach and athletic director at Eastern Hancock Schools. Her 75th birthday would have been Wednesday, Aug. 3, and promoters of the fundraiser are trying to obtain at least 75 donations and birthday cards in her memory.

Cougars cross-country conducting garage sale

The Greenfield-Central High School boys cross-country team will be conducting a freewill donation garage sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at 272 VanBuren Street. Some items for sale will include furniture, Halloween and Christmas items, kitchen items, and home decor.

Royals aquatics club offering swim lessons

The Eastern Hancock Aquatics Club is conducting a registration night Tuesday for swim lessons.

Swimmers can register at the Eastern Hancock swimming pool from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Ages 3 and older are welcome to take lessons. Must be potty trained.

Available lessons are split into two sessions.

The first will be conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from Aug. 10 through Aug. 16. The 30-minute time slots offered are between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The second session runs from Aug. 17 through Sept. 8 on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays with the same time 30-minute slots available. There will be no lessons on Labor Day.

Private 1-on-1 lessons are offered at $60 for four sessions and eight for $110. Semi-private (two kids per instructor) lessons are $90 for four sessions and $150 for eight. Both options are offered on a first come first serve basis.
