Event offers school supplies, haircuts

#RoleModelz317 presents “2016 Free Cutz 4 Kidz and School Supplies” from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E. New Road, Greenfield.

This free event features a bounce house, face painting, a live DJ, games and free haircuts and school supplies for children.

The National Guard, Wilkinson Fire Department (with a fire truck) and local DARE officers will be there.

Several local businesses and many community members are sponsoring this event along with the church.

Concert to benefit scholarship fund

GREENFIELD — Kate Brock and friends will give a recital at 5 p.m. Sunday at Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 23 N. East St. It will benefit the Christian Education Scholarship Fund.

A reception with light refreshments will follow the performance.

Mortgage burning celebration scheduled

FORTVILLE — A mortgage burning celebration will take place at 4 p.m. Aug. 7 at New Life Christian Fellowship, 1574 W. State Road 234.

In October, First Church of God in Greenfield and New Life became one congregation. The united New Life has sold the former First Church facility at 700 N. Broadway to Greenfield-Central Schools. With the proceeds, both the First Church mortgage and New Life’s mortgage have been paid off.

A barbecue on the church lawn and intergenerational activities will follow the mortgage burning. Organizers say a highlight will be the Interwoven Olympics, which will pit teams of children, youth, adults and seniors against each other in some light-hearted games.

St. Thomas annual festival weekend set

FORTVILLE — St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church’s 34th annual festival weekend is set for Aug. 5 and 6.

Monte Carlo Night runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Aug. 5 and is for adults 21 and older. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per person or $30 per couple and includes food, soft drinks, beer and wine coolers.

Family festival activities run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 6 and include children’s games, live music, raffles for prizes, a homemade chicken noodle dinner and a homemade dessert corner. There will also be bingo, a blood drive, a silent auction, a farmers market and a lemon shake-up stand. Festivalgoers can also tour the church’s building at 523 S. Merrill St.

All proceeds will benefit the church.

Gospel quartet concert set at Baptist church

CUMBERLAND — GloryWay Quartet will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 at Buck Creek Baptist Church, 135 S. Muessing Road. These southern gospel recording artists will present their renditions of old-time hymns, as well as some of their new releases.

Ministry collecting household goods

HANCOCK COUNTY — Families are not able to get cleaning supplies and paper products with food stamps. Love INC’s H2O ministries provide these items for families that are referred and scheduled through the Love INC Clearinghouse. A group of volunteers at Realife Church, at St. James Lutheran in Greenfield and at Fortville Church of the Nazarene meet with the families to assist with their needs.

The ministry could use more of the following items: paper towels, tissues, laundry soap, dryer sheets, all-purpose cleaner, baby wipes, mouthwash and diapers (except size 3, which is in full supply).

You can drop items off on weekday mornings at the Love INC office, 737 W. Green Meadows Drive, Suite 2200. Or take them to Realife, 971 W. U.S. 40, Monday through Thursday.

Weight-loss class offers free preview

GREENFIELD — Park Chapel Christian Church offers a free TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss class to new attendees. The class meets from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road.
