Elbert I. Cummings, age 76 of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Elkhart General Hospital. Elbert was born March 8, 1940 in Chicago, Ill., to the late Fred and Pearl (Moncel) Cummings.
He later moved to Monon, Ind. where he attended high school and played basketball. In 1958, he joined the Marine Corps where he obtained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1966. Later, Elbert moved to California to work for Howard Hughes Aircraft Company, and later moved to Greenfield, to work for the Hancock County REMC as the Member Service Director. Elbert later joined the Air Force Reserves retiring as a Master Sergeant. He later worked with Naval Avionics in Mishawaka as a Quality Assurance Rep. before his retirement from the Federal Government in 1995.
Elbert married Linda Mathew on December 30, 1986, in Las Vegas. She survives, along with his children, Evelyn Breece, Charles Cummings, Bonnie Kermes, Dan Cummings, Gloria Trump and Alan Cummings from a previous marriage of 24 years to Florence Cummings; and his stechildren, Kim Wolfe, Rhonda Krazit, and Natalie Mathew. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Dale Cummings.
There will be no visitation or services. Elkhart Cremation is assisting with arrangements.
