Greenfield remembers the Hoosier Poet

GREENFIELD — A wreath-laying ceremony will be conducted 9 a.m. Friday at the James Whitcomb Riley statue, located in front of the Hancock County Courthouse, 9 E. Main St., Greenfield to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.

Greenfield Mayor Chuck Fewell will issue an official proclamation to mark the occasion. The James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home will be decorated in black to honor Riley. The first 50 visitors to take a tour will receive a print of Riley’s poem “Away.”

The James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday from April through October. For more information, call 317-462-8539 or visit jwrileyhome.org.
