Gary L. Bowen, age 75, of New Palestine, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at his home. He was born on August 2, 1940, in Kokomo as the son of Leslie L. and Dorothy J. (Elson) Bowen.
He graduated from New Palestine High School in 1957. He married Jenny L. (Ortel) Bowen on August 16, 1957, in New Palestine.
He worked as a supervisor for Chrysler in Kokomo and Indianapolis for over 36 years before retiring in 2001. Mr. Bowen was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, sports and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Jenny Bowen of New Palestine; daughters, Rhonda L. (Greg) Mundell of Bringhurst, Cathy L. (Rod) Kirby of Indianapolis and Jodi L. Majors of Indianapolis; sisters, Anita (Jack) McIntosh of Spiceland and Diana (Dan) Marshall of Columbia, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lauren, Aaron, Abby and Alix; and six great-grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie L. and Dorothy J. Bowen; brothers, Steve Bowen and Randy Bowen; and sister, Vickie Bowen.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 24, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 W. 300 S., New Palestine, IN 46163, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jason Taylor will be officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran in New Palestine.
