Sports-themed library summer reading program to kick off

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Library’s summer reading program kicks off at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the sports theme of “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!”

Participants of all ages are invited to stop by, register to read for prizes and then visit the interactive Indiana Pacers Fan Van between 4 and 6 p.m.

500 Festival Parade invites attendees to ‘Celebration’

INDIANAPOLIS — The 500 Festival Parade marks its 60th year at 11:45 a.m. May 28.

With a theme of “Experience the Celebration,” the parade features more than 80 entries, including celebrities, racecar drivers, floats, bands, balloons and special units.

Reserved bleacher tickets are $15, but curbside is free. Visit 500festival.com for the parade route and reserved tickets.

Opera and Chamber Orchestra present concert in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS —The Indianapolis Opera Company and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra present Crescendo at 7:30 p.m. Friday at White River State Park, 801 W. Washington St.

Billed as the first great party of summer, the concert will feature music from opera, Broadway, orchestra and tunes from the great American songbook. Visit indyopera.org for more information.

Garfield Park offers graffiti culture hands-on workshop

INDIANAPOLIS — Participants are invited to learn about graffiti culture at Arts for All: Graffiti Stencils and Styles from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Garfield Park Arts Center, 2432 Conservatory Drive.
