Mary (Gipalo) Girt, age 90, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. She was born October 10, 1925, in Steubenville, Ohio, as the daughter of Michael and Bozicia (Krayoh) Gipalo.
She graduated from Steubenville High School in 1943. Mary married John Keith Girt on February 28, 1946, in Canton, Ohio. She was a finance officer for Beneficial Finance for more than 10 years in Canton, Ohio. Mary was a member of Trinity Park United Methodist Church. She loved to fellowship with family and friends.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sharon “Sherrie” (Dave) Portilla of Greenfield; siblings, Stella Bender of Steubenville, Ohio, Ruby Letzelter of Louisville, Ky. and George Gipalo of Weirton, W.Va.; granddaughter, Julie (David) Kuhn of Howell, Mich.; and great-granddaughter, Erica Kuhn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Bozicia (Krayoh) Gipalo; and husband, John Girt.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 U.S. 40 West, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation. Reverend Mike Manning will be officiating.
