Fire damages home in New Palestine

NEW PALESTINE — Flames destroyed the garage of a home in the 4400 block of South County Road 650W in New Palestine on Monday.

The Sugar Creek Fire Department responded to the fire around 9:30 a.m. Monday. Chief John Begovich said flames were showing when his crews arrived, but they were able to keep the fire contained to the garage, where they believe the blaze started. The rest of the home sustained moderate smoke damage, he said.

The homeowner and his dog made it out of the house safely. No firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze, Begovich said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
