GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man pleaded not guilty Thursday to child molest charges after a girl told police he touched her inappropriately, court documents state.

Ryan Nutter, 29, faces two Class C felony charges of child molesting.

The defendant was the one who initially contacted police, saying he wanted to speak to an officer about allegations being made against him, court records state.

Nutter called 911 in November after seeing text messages on the girl’s cellphone in which she told a friend he’d harmed her, police said. When officers arrived at Nutter’s home, he denied any inappropriate conduct.

Court documents state the girl was questioned about the allegations several times. She told police about different instances of abuse at each meeting with investigators, court documents state.

The girl told police Nutter had touched her on at least five occasions dating back to 2011, according to court documents.

Nutter was arrested Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty Thursday morning in Hancock Circuit Court. He was released from jail on a $5,000 cash bond and instructed not the contact the girl.
