Work on U.S. 40 begins next month

HANCOCK COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to replace a drainage culvert under U.S. 40 at Breier Arm Ditch, which is 1.5 miles east of the Marion-Hancock County line between county roads 600W and 700W, starting next month.

The first phase, anticipated to begin in early March, involves preliminary work off the roadway. U.S. 40 will be restricted to one lane in each direction, and the speed will be reduced to 45 mph in the area.

Weather permitting, contractors plan to shift traffic to the south side of U.S. 40 in late March. After the north half of the new culvert is complete, traffic will be shifted to the north side of the road as work on the south half of the culvert begins.

Construction is expected to be complete, and traffic patterns will return to normal before July.
