Richard Edward Brown

Richard Edward Brown, 84, of Kabetogama, Minn., and formerly of Greenfield, passed away at his home after a valiant fight with cancer. He was surrounded by the love and care of his wife, Charlotte Huter Brown. Richard was born on July 25, 1931 in Indianapolis, the son of LeRoy and Frieda Rahe Brown who preceded him in death.

Richard and Charlotte were married on June 19, 1955 in Indianapolis, and moved to Greenfield, in 1959.

Richard graduated from Arsenal Technical High School with the class of 1949. He worked at his father and uncle’s pharmacy, Brown’s Pharmacy, during high school and summers while attending the University of Michigan. He graduated with a BS in Zoology from the University of Michigan in 1953. After Michigan he attended the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University of Chicago for an MS in Anatomy. Richard finished the course and research in May 1955. He then received his MS degree in Pharmacy from Butler University. While attending Butler, he worked at Methodist Hospital and Eli Lilly.

After moving to Greenfield in 1959, he worked at Byrne Pharmacy and was Chief Pharmacist at Hancock Memorial Hospital where he retired in 1993. After moving to Kabetogama, he worked at Falls Memorial Hospital and Kmart Pharmacy from 1994-1999. Richard was a member of Zion Evangelical Church, Bradley United Methodist Church and became a member of Kabetogama Methodist Church while living in Minnesota.

Richard is survived by his wife, Charlotte Huter Brown, Kabetogama, Minnesota; his children, Diane Brown Detering and her husband Mike from Knightstown, David Brown and his wife, Libby from Morrisonville, New York and Carol Brown Perry and her husband, Phil from Indianapolis, Indiana. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kari Brown Sarych and her husband, Tim from Baxter, Minnesota, Matthew Brown from Frazee, Minn., Emily Brown Berkman and her husband Kevin from Brainerd, Minn., Andrew Brown, Morrisonville, New York, Kyle Perry from Muncie and Sean Perry from Sydney, Australia. Also surviving is a great-grandchild, Ally Berkman from Brainerd, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
