Ex-official returns town equipment, documents
FORTVILLE — Former Fortville clerk-treasurer Marcie Stafford re-turned town equipment and documents to Fortville Town Hall on Jan. 25, more than four weeks after leaving office.
The items Stafford didn’t return when her term expired Jan. 1 included a town cellphone, printer and several town documents.
Text messages and phone calls from town council members to Stafford asking her to return the equipment went unanswered, and town officials had discussed taking legal action by having the town’s attorney issue a formal notice demanding she return the equipment within a certain time period.
Stafford returned the equipment before any legal action was taken.
