To the editor:
The remarkable thing about Michael Adkins’ column on the opinion page of Tuesday’s Daily Reporter is how free of opinion it was. Local readers might have expected something different from a Democrat writing a column headlined “Socialist a dirty word? Depends who you ask” and not bothered to read further.
That’s too bad, because Adkins explained clearly what socialism actually is and why labeling, whether applied to people or government policies, serves to distract us from the real issues rather than help us define our problems and find workable solutions.
Who could disagree with that?
