LIBERTY — A McCordsville teenage woman died early Tuesday in a crash after she lost control of her car and crashed in a field in Union County.

Jessica McCown, 19, was driving along State Road 101 near Liberty, in east-central Indiana around 3 a.m. Tuesday when her car left the roadway, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but officers who examined the crash scene believe McCown missed a curve in the roadway and lost control of her vehicle.

Her car careened off the side of the road, flipped and came to rest in a field, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

McCown was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A passenger, 18-year-old Caitlin Norris of Anderson, was taken to a local hospital.

McCown’s car was the only vehicle involved in the crash, police said.

Union County is located in the eastern part of the state, near the Indiana-Ohio line.

Daily Reporter records show McCown was a student in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corp.
