Common Threads members winners at state fair

Four members of Common Threads Quilt Guild of Central Indiana Inc., which meets in Mt. Comfort, were winners at the Indiana State Fair.

Jean Broadbent won Best of Show for her quilt “Stars for the Midwest” and a first place for her “Happy is Yellow” quilt.

Other winners included Karen Burkett, who won a third-place ribbon for “My Garden Quilt,” third place for her serger cover, honorable mention for “Tranquility Quilt” and honorable mention for “Desert Flower.”

Sharon Koepper was a third-place winner for her “Hubble” from Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co.

Marcia Robertson won fourth place for her quilt from “Through the Seasons” from Eleanor Burns’ book.

The Indiana State Fair awards ribbons in each category: first-, second- and third-place ribbons and a Best of Show.

Common Threads Quilt Guild meets from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the third Wednesday of each month at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N. County Road 600W, with approximately 60 to 75 members present at each meeting.

Upcoming speakers include Mary Bauer from Kentucky, who will be demonstrating 10 to 12 ways to bind your quilt in her Oct. 21 program “On the Edge.”

Kristin Donnelly Henson, an attorney, will present “Quilt Copyright Laws and You” on Nov. 18.
