Ricks-Weil Theatre Company presents “The Sound of Music” through Aug. 9 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St. in downtown Greenfield. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be reserved by calling 317-443-2005. Adult tickets are $12; and tickets for children under 12 are $10.

The Hancock County Public Library will conduct a Friends of the Library Book Sale from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Most hardback books will be $1, and paperbacks cost 50 cents. Closeout prices start at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. on Tuesday with a plastic grocery bag of books going for $2 and a paper grocery bag of books going for $3. Proceeds will help fund concerts, children’s events and summer reading club prizes for the library.

The Brown County Playhouse will present a musical tribute to the music of John Denver at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St., Nashville. Performers include Tim Grimm and the Back Home Again Band, Amanda Biggs, Jason Wilber, Lucky and the Kid, Greg Ziesmer and Kriss Luckett. Beer and wine will be on sale in the auditorium. The Indiana State Fair opens Friday at 8 a.m. and runs through August 23 at the state fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St. This year’s theme is “The Year of the Farmer.” Admission at the gate is $12 and $5 to park. Highlights of the this year’s fair include live performances by Meghan Trainor, Garrison Keillor and Gabriel Iglesias; medieval jousting with the Knights of Valor; and the Great American Wild West Show.
