Barbara A. (Hancher) Ford, 86, of Fortville, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, at her home. She was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Madison, Wisc., as the daughter of Carl and Bessie (Stroud) Hancher. She married Charles A. “Charlie” Ford on March 18, 1966, in McCordsville.
Barbara worked for United Telephone Company in Fortville as well as Brookside Corporation in McCordsville for 14 years. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge in Fortville, Fortville Baptist Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Rick (Lynette) Whittington of Coal City; daughters, Debra D. Gilpin of Fortville and Cheryl Lewis of Anderson; sisters, Valarie “Connie” Little of Walnut Ridge, Ark. and Phyllis Searles of Fortville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. “Charlie” Ford; parents, Carl and Bessie Hancher; two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015, with a one hour visitation prior to service, at the Fortville mortuary. Pastor Russ Jarvis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
