HANCOCK COUNTY — The Architecture Construction and Engineering student presentation and scholarship awards recently took place in Indianapolis. Six schools, including the Walker Career Center, participated.

The event highlighted students’ work on a design challenge for a new Indianapolis Motor Speedway fire station.

The career center sponsored a group of 26 students, who had taken several field trips throughout the school year, visiting a material testing facility, construction sites, electrical companies, the Ball State University Indianapolis Center and a fire station.

From each of these locations the students learned from industry professionals in the trades of construction, architecture or engineering.

The event also included presentations of scholarships, which were given to students based on their interest in the three facets of the program, including architecture, construction and engineering.

Two career center students, Truman Hardiman and Andrew Gable, each received a $1,000 award. Samantha Greiner and Atlanta Phelps each was awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
