Judge OKs evaluation for murder suspect

GREENFIELD — A man charged in the death of his 1-year-old daughter will go through a psychological evaluation to determine whether he qualifies for an insanity defense, a judge ruled.

Matthew Wagoner, 31, who faces charges of murder and neglect in the death of his daughter, Zoey Wagoner, will be evaluated by a forensic psychologist to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial.

A request, submitted by Matthew Wagoner’s attorney, Jeff McClarnon, was approved Friday by Hancock County Superior Court 1 Judge Terry Snow.

Zoey Wagoner was found dead at her parents’ home last week. Medical records show the child died from blunt-force trauma. Matthew and Jessica Wagoner both pleaded not guilty to murder and felony neglect charges.

If convicted, they would spend up to 100 years in prison and pay up to $20,000 in fines.
