Fortville man sinks hole-in-one at Fall Creek

Steve Doty of Fortville had a day to remember on May 26. Using a pitching wedge, Doty scored a hole-in-one at Fall Creek Golf Course.

He sank his shot from 96 yards out. The shot occurred on the course’s second hole and was witnessed by Tom Wheeler, Ron Martin and Harold Reichenbach.

Sporting Indiana FC tryouts approaching

Tryouts for Sporting Indiana FC’s U11 through U18 soccer teams will be Monday and Tuesday.

The U11 through U14 team tryout is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day. The U15 through U18 team will conduct its tryout from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. both days.

All tryouts will take place at McCordsville Sports Park. Field assignments will be issued at the check-in tent near the entrance.

All players must register online prior to evaluations at sportingindianafc.com.

Players should bring their own water, shin guards and appropriate footwear.

Some offers will be made at the end of the first day. Offers must be accepted by the start of the second day. Offers for all roster spots will be made by the end of the second day. A $100 deposit is due at tryouts upon acceptance. Only checks will be accepted.

New Palestine girls set basketball camps

The New Palestine High School girls basketball program invites girls in Grades 1 to 7 who are interested in playing basketball to attend summer camps Monday through Thursday at Sugar Creek Elementary.

The camp will be run by the varsity coaching staff with help from current and former players. Grades 1 to 3 will attend from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., and Grades 4 to 7 will attend from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Registration open for Marauders camps

Mt. Vernon High School will host several athletics camps during the summer break.

Registration forms can be found at maraudersathletics.com under Marauder HQ tab. All grades are as of next fall.

Boys basketball

All camps Monday through June 12 at high school main gym.

Kindergarten to Grade 2: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Grades 3 to 5: 10:30 a.m. to noon

Grades 6 to 8: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Cost: $50, $30 for additional camper in family

Colts signs DL, former Indy student Beard

The Indianapolis Colts announced another roster move this week as they signed former Cathedral High School product Camaron Beard. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive lineman was undrafted out of Cincinnati. He was invited to Colts rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis.

At Cincinnati, Beard hard 75 career tackles with 8.5 for loss and two sacks in 41 games. In 2014 alone, he had 37 tackles.

To keep the roster at 90 players, the Colts waived cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz.
