Joan M. (Lucas) Knotts Swain, 76, of Greenfield and formerly of Clay City, Ind., passed away May 10, 2015, at Hancock County Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Buffalo, New York, Nov. 10, 1938, the daughter of Kenneth and Bertha (Sorrentino) Lucas.
Joan retired from Metals Technology in Shirley, Ind., in 1990, where she worked as an inspector. She had also worked for RCA in Marion, Ind. Joan enjoyed crocheting, playing Scrabble, mushroom hunting and gardening and spending time with family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Knotts and J.B. “John” Swain; as well as a brother James Lucas.
She is survived by three children, Ray (Lisa) Knotts of Mo., Darlene (Mike) Reeves of Greenfield and Dan Knotts of Greenfield; grandchildren, Kara (Jorge) Martinez , Lucas Knotts, Paige (Gilbert) Henson, Brandi Knotts, Braydan Knotts, Abby Knotts, Connor Knotts, Travis (Ashley) Reeves, Randy (Stephanie) Reeves and Michelle Reeves; great- grandchildren, Addilyn Reeves, Olivia Reeves, Lincoln Reeves, Jackson Martinez, Nicholas Reeves, Carson Martinez and Lyla Joan Reeves on the way; a sister, Patricia (Doug) Reynolds; two brothers, Kenneth (Margaret) Lucas and Charles (Patas) Lucas; well as her beloved pet companion, Charlie and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m at the funeral home, Friday, May 15, 2015. Services for Joan will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street Clay City, Indiana 47841. Burial will follow at Peavey Cemetery.
