GREENFIELD — The Women’s Fund of Hancock County will host a derby-themed celebration and fundraiser May 9 at the Indiana Grand Racing and Casino in Shelbyville.

The event is a celebration for the organization and a time to raise money to provide further services to women and girls in Hancock County.

Here are three things to know about the event:

1. The organization

The Women’s Fund of Hancock County is part of the Hancock County Community Foundation and has more than 200 registered members who are women and girls making regular contributions to the fund. Money collected is used to fund grants to address women’s issues including education, child care, arts, family support programs and other needs, organizers said.

2. The programs

Fund leaders hope to raise $40,000 at the event. That money will be divided to help support the new Women’s Resource Center, which opened in October, and fund other programs. So far, the resource center’s operations have been funded by a grant, but that money is expected to come to end this year.

3. The details

Registration for the event begins at 4:45 p.m. at the Shelbyville casino. Dinner and live racing are set to begin at 5 p.m. Men also are invited to attend, organizers said.

Tickets can be purchased on the Hancock County Community Foundation website, givehcgrowhc.org. The cost is $40 per person or $70 per couple. Reservations are limited to 200 people.
