Charles Eugene Huffman, 76, of Straughn, went home to be with the Lord on Christmas day following a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Cambridge City, a son of the late Edward and Marie (Barnes) Huffman.

Charles served in the Navy. He worked for Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis for 33 years retiring in 1997. Charles was an active member of the Greenfield First Church of the Nazarene serving on the board and the building committee for the new church. He had also served as minister of music and taught adult Sunday School class.  He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, and playing bass guitar and the piano.  He also loved watching IU Basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Naomi (Greene) Huffman; three children, Rhonda (Bruce) Bowlin of Indianapolis, Kevin Eugene (Crystal) Huffman of Straughn and Ryan (Lorna) Huffman of Pendleton; 8 grandchildren, Heather, Nathan and Brandon Bowlin, Laerra, twins: Kyle and Cory, Gabriella and Zachary Charles Huffman; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Betty Logan of Connersville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Faith Bowlin; a brother, James Huffman and a sister, Ruth Coy.

Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at Sproles Family Funeral Home, New Castle, Ind., with Pastor David Huff officiating.  Burial will follow Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Military honors will be provided by contingents from the Navy and the VFW and American Legion.
