Delbert Calvin McNamara, 75, of Fountaintown, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Greenwood. He was born April 10, 1939, in Indianapolis, the son of Clyde E. and Carrie E. (Tanner) McNamara.  On Nov. 18, 1965, he married his wife, of 48 years, Karen Smith, and she survives.

Delbert graduated from Moral Township High School in 1957 and Marion University in 1992, with a degree in Respiratory Therapy. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and served in the National Guard.

Delbert formerly owned and operated McNamara Strawberries and McNamara Apples and Cider. During the winters, he would travel to Colorado and work as a lift foreman at the ski resorts. After retiring, he went to college and became a respiratory therapist, working at Community East Hospital and several nursing facilities, retiring in 2005.

He enjoyed golfing, snow skiing and his Wednesday morning breakfast group at McDonald's.

Also surviving are his daughters, Christina (Johnny) Herrera, of Fairland and Cynthia (Steve) Bluhm, of Fort Wayne; brother, Dale (Carolyn) McNamara, of Fountaintown; grandchildren, Isabella, Ethan, Jakob, Eleyna and Lukas; mother-in-law, Marjorie Smith of Shelbyville; and a loving extended family and his dog, Reuben.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Beck officiating. Interment will be at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
