Charles Allen Johnson Jr., 74, of Columbus, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at his home. He was born in Terre Haute, June 10, 1939, Mr. Johnson was the son of Charles Allen and Sarah Alice Critchley Johnson Sr. He married Margaret Frances Dewees March 19, 1961, in Scotland, Ind. Mr. Johnson was an Army and Air Force reservist retiring after 24 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, of 53 years; son, Charles Allen (Kim) Johnson III of Jasper; daughter, Jewellia Anna (Rick) Stratman of New Palestine; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; brother, Russell Lee (Martha) Johnson of Texas; and his mother-in-law, Anna Louise Dewees of Columbus.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Rev. Jewell Dewees.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, IN 47201with the Rev. James Hoppus officiating. A Masonic memorial service will held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
