R. Harold “Whitey” Haste, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his residence.  He was born on Feb. 6, 1940, in Liberty, Kentucky as the son of Howard and Agnes (Watson) Haste.

He married Betty (Rednour) on April 28, 1962. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958. He worked for Ford Motor Company for many years and was the recording secretary for the union for many years and then retired as a floor inspector.  Mr. Haste was a member of UAW Local 1111 and New Palestine United Church (His Place).  He loved thoroughbred racing and training the horses.

Whitey is survived by his daughter, Rochelle Stepp of New Palestine; son, Kenny Haste of Hancock County; brothers, William Haste and Larry Haste both of Greenfield; sister, Teresa Suchan of Florida; four grandchildren, Landis, Kristy, Misty, and Kenny; several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Agnes (Watson) Haste; wife, Betty (Rednour) Haste; brother, James Haste; son-in-law, John Stepp.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.  A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation.  Pastor Carl Coffey will be officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the John Stepp Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
