Reverend David S. Low, 59, of Crawfordsville, passed away at Williamsburg Health and Rehab on March 23, 2014, after a 10 year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born Dec. 29, 1954, in Greenfield, to Richard and Julia (Marquis) Low. He married Debra Robbins Kennedy, on April 26, 1986.

He graduated from New Palestine High School in 1973 and graduated from IUPUI with his Bachelor’s Degree from IU. David received his Masters of Divinity from United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio.  He was admitted into membership of the South Indiana Conference, The United Methodist Church, in 1978 and was ordained an Elder in 1981. As a teenager, David was called by the Lord to pursue the Ministry and has served numerous churches during his lifetime: Rosedale & Bridgeton UMC's 1980-1984; Roberts Park UMC, Indianapolis, 1984-1987; Michigan Street UMC, Indianapolis, 1987-1989; Mt. Olive UMC, Indianapolis, 1989-1990; Trinity UMC, Arcadia, 1990-1992; Christ’s UMC, Crawfordsville, 1992-2000; Waynetown UMC, Waynetown, 2000-2010

He also served as chaplain for Goodwill Industries from 1987-1984.  He became a volunteer Chaplain for the Culver Union Hospital in Crawfordsville, IN in 1993 and enjoyed it so much that he completed training to become the head Chaplain for the hospital (now known as Franciscan St Elizabeth Health Crawfordsville) in 2000 to 2008.

David’s favorite past times were Indy Racing, NASCAR , football, music and singing (even though he couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket). David was always loyal to the loves of his life, putting family first, never missing a race and only drinking ice tea or Coke (don’t even think of offering him a Pepsi).  He was always there if you needed him and never complained when asked to go out of his way to help someone. He could recall the details of just about every Indy 500 race and loved to be at the track to experience it with all of his senses. Although it was clear he had a passion for racing, animals, ice tea and Coke, it was no match for the joy he had when he was spending time with children, be it his daughter, grandchildren, niece, great-niece, or the kids in the church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and man in every way.

David is survived by his wife, Debbie Low; mother, Julia Low of Greenfield;  daughter, Breanne (Chad) Anderson of Brooklyn Park, Minn; grandchildren, Kieran, Cooper and Jocelyn Anderson of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; sister, Jennie (Tony) Thomas of Indianapolis; brothers, Mark Low of Greenfield and Dan Low of  Indianapolis; niece, Ashlee Thomas; great-niece, Bayley Shumaker; and many  loving relatives.

David was preceded in death by his father, Richard Low in 2003.

Visitation for will be from 4- 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Hunt and Sons Funeral Home in Crawfordsville.
