Michael Mearl O’Neal, 72, of Greenfield, passed over to heaven on Jan. 29, 2014. He was born April 7, 1941, in Eden, Hancock County, to Mearl “Pete” and Ruthe (Kessler) O’Neal. He married Lyn Wessel O’Neal on Aug. 31, 1980, she survives him.

Mike was a 1959 graduate of Hancock Central High School. He was very fond of his classmates from Eden, having known most of them since kindergarten. Mike coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball and enjoyed his boys very much. Mike was the proprietor of Mike’s Barber Shop working actively as a barber for 50 years. He was very proud of working with his son Todd for 25 years. He took up golf late and in his retirement was a fierce competitor playing almost daily when able. He was a member of Bradley United Methodist Church.

On January 14, 2000 Mike received a single lung transplant which enabled him to be present for graduations, marriages, and births which he would not have been otherwise alive to see.

In addition to his wife, Lyn W. O’Neal, he is survived by his brother, S. Thomas (Suzanne) O’Neal; cousins, Gene (Elaine) O’Neal, William (Alicia) O’Neal, and children, Nadena (Jerry) Pardue, Gary (Becky) O’Neal, Todd (Heather) O’Neal, Brad O’Neal; five nephews; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His sister, Joyce K. O’Neal predeceased Mike in 2011.

Friends may call from 10a.m. until the time of service at the church. Services will be held 1p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Bradley United Methodist Church, 210 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140, with Pastor Wade Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery.
