Donald William Pierson, 88, known to his friends as “Crazy Don,” of New Castle, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014. He was born September 7, 1925 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Charles and Talberta (Griffin) Pierson.
Don served in the Navy on an aircraft carrier during World War II.
Don leaves behind two daughters, Donna Stanley and J.K. McPherson; a son, Kyle Pierson; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a beloved caregiver, Wyona Altom and many friends in New Castle and Beech Grove.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Veria Kathryn Wolf; an infant son, Monford Kyle Pierson; a son-in-law; a brother, Horace “Bud” Pierson and a sister, Peggy Doane.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Don Raines officiating. Friends may call an hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by a contingent from the Navy, American Legion and V.F.W. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, Legion Hill.
