Donald E. “Gene” Brown

Donald E. “Gene” Brown, 81, of Greenfield, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on Jan. 11, 1932, in Charlottesville, the son of Claud and Helen E. (Van Ostrum) Brown.

He served in the Army from 1952 -1954, and fought in the Korean War. While in service, Gene received the award of a Rifle Expert and Theater Medals.

Surviving him are his loving wife, Ruth Brown of Greenfield; sons, Christopher Brown of Indianapolis, David (Dana) Brown of Greenfield, and Bobby (Kim) Brown of Greenfield; daughters, Anna Hinton, and Vicki (fiancé, Scott) Bryant both of Greenfield; brothers, Paul E. Brown of Greenfield and Harold L. Brown of Morristown; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Claud and Helen Brown; daughter, Linda K. Brown-Baker; and sister, Joyce Holliday.

Visitation will be from 12 – 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, with a funeral service immediately following at 1 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Gene's family requests that attendees dress in Colts apparel.
