Janet L. Simmons-Hay, 86, of Gwynneville, passed away Friday morning May 24, 2013, at her home. She was born June 1, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph and Onda (Denny) Dunlap.

After graduation Janet attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary and Anderson College and Ball State. She was married to Lilburn Simmons for 42 years before his passing in 1989 and was married to Olin Hay from 1992 to 2003.

Janet retired from Knightstown Elementary as a second grade teacher after 27 years of service. She toured the Holy Land with her husband Lilburn Simmons and son Joe and Debbie Simmons. She was active in various ministries with husbands, pie ministry and spoke at various churches to ladies groups. She received America’s Outstanding teacher’s award in 1992 listed under Who’s Who in America’s Teachers.

Survivors include her children, Joe (Debbie) of Bixby, Okla., Joyce (Mike) Snyder of Gwynneville, James (Tina) Simmons of Greenfield; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Denny Dunlap; and sister Marilyn Barton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lilburn Simmons and Olin Hay; brother, Owen Dunlap.

Visitation will be from 3- 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson, Ind. Funeral service will be at Wilkinson Church of Christ in Wilkinson, Ind., Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery.
