Eleanor Edith (Fink) Holzhausen
Eleanor Edith (Fink) Holzhausen, 95, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Greenfield, after a ten year battle with oral cancer. Mrs. Holzhausen was the first baby born in Hancock County, on Jan. 1, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Herbert E. and Hazel E. (Shelby) Fink.
She was a 1936 graduate of Mt. Comfort High School, and a 1941 graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Eleanor worked as a substitute teacher and library aide in the Mt. Vernon school district for many years. She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Eleanor was an active lifetime member of Otterbein United Methodist church.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Michael B. (Nancy) Holzhausen and Mark A. (Mary Ann) Holzhausen of Greenfield; 4 grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Holzhausen of Greenfield, Cindy (John) Smock of Columbus, Jeni (Jason) Northouse and Steve (Mandy) Holzhausen of Indianapolis; 6 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Suzanne, Emma, Hans, Darla and Joy Holzhausen; sister, Dorcas Wolfe; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death in 1994, by her husband, Mervin K. Holzhausen, whom she married March 5, 1943.
Friends and family may call from 4 – 8 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, at Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 West U. S. 40, Greenfield, IN. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
