William “Bill” A. Payne, 80, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Hancock Regional Hospice Unit Greenfield. Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Charlottesville, and is the son of the late Albert and Irene (McDaniel) Payne.

He retired as a mail carrier for the Knightstown Post Office and also Allison’s in Indianapolis. He had also worked in security at Wal Mart.  He attended Charlottesville Christian Church. He was a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge #16, the Charlottesville Fire Department and Lyons Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, star basketball player at Charlottesville. He attended Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.

He is survived by his wife, Janeen (Reynolds) Payne of Charlottesville; 10 children, Cheryl Smith of Wilkinson; Becky Hancock of Charlottesville; Cathy Owens of Carthage; Nancy White of Charlottesville; Cindy Younts of Greenfield; Carla Horrigan of Kennard; Daniel Jenkins of Greenfield; Thomas Jenkins of Charlottesville; Tracy Fields of Knightstown; Jennifer Gambrel of Charlottesville; 27 grandchildren; several great & great- great- grandchildren; a brother, David Dudley of Norfolk NE and a best friend of 60 years, Charlie Grider.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Walter “Gene” Mann and Larry Ramon Payne.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Kurt Alexander officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
