Karl J. Leary (affectionately known as “Karl Baby”), 79, passed away on Dec. 20, 2012, at Golden Living Brandywine Nursing Home. He was born on Sept. 26, 1933, in Mohawk, the son of Pauline Whitaker Pope and Joseph Carrol Leary.
He proudly served 11 years in the Indiana National Guard. His chosen profession was as an auto mechanic. He worked at Andis Motors, Inskeep Ford, and as the owner of Karl’s Automotive. In retirement, he was a pit crew chief for the Leary Boys racing team and went on to build go cart engines for Comet Kart Sales.
Surviving Karl are his son, Stephen Leary of Greenfield; daughter, Julie Leary (Jeff) Heichel of Michigan; grandson, Justin Leary of Greenfield; sister, Elsie (Tom) Blanchard of Greenfield; sister, Paula (Melvin) Grose of Florida; brother, John Bud Leary of Greenfield; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield.
