Jama Lynn Moffitt, 51, of Greenfield, went home to be with her Lord Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at her home following a brief battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 7, 1961, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Fred Moffitt and Maxine (Benson) Moffitt-Bailey.
Jama was a 1979 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School. She was a kind and caring nurse at Rosewalk Village and Lockfield Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center both in Indianapolis. Her first joy was her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Jama loved and rescued animals of all kinds and enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, traveling and especially spending time at the beach.
She is survived by her mother, Maxine Moffitt-Bailey and stepfather, Jesse Bailey of New Castle; three brothers, Joe Moffitt of Pensacola, Fla., Mike (Cristy) Moffitt of Indianapolis and Matt Moffitt (companion, Shannon) of Greenfield; two step-sisters, Cristi Ponder of Sevierville, Tenn. and Kim Moore of Franklin, N.C.; a step-brother, Jeff Bailey of Orlando, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Beth (Dr. John) Miller of New Castle; nieces, Monica (Noureddine) Marouani, Kate, Madilyn and Alainey Moffitt; nephews, Eric (Jaime) Moffitt, Craig and Jayden Moffitt; two special friends, Toni Johnson and Carolyn Oldfather both of Livingston, Tenn. and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ermal and Eursel Moffitt, Harold and Esta Benson; and step-grandmother, Blanche Bailey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Sproles Family Funeral Home, New Castle, with Rev. Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
