Rex “Lefty” McKeeman

Rex “Lefty” McKeeman, 75, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012. He was born on Sept. 5, 1936, in Mohawk to Cleo and Mae (Allford) McKeeman.

Rex graduated from Maxwell High School. He married Carolyn Seifert on March 3, 1962. Rex served in the U.S. Army and was the unofficial mayor of Mohawk, Ind. He retired from Chrysler in 1998 after 34 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 37 and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. Lefty was an avid baseball fan and always rooted for the New York Yankees.  He played fast pitched softball with his brothers and many long time friends in his younger days. He also coached all 5 of his children.

Rex is survived by his five children, Kelly (Brad) Wilson of Muncie, Mary (Ken) Houck of Greenfield, Cathy (Cap) Boso of Indianapolis, Matt (Andrea) McKeeman and Robert (Mindi) McKeeman, both of Greenfield; eleven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren; sisters, Margie Brooks of Greenfield and Bonnie Welbaum of Florida; brothers, Bill McKeeman of Pennsylvania, Donnie McKeeman and Joe McKeeman, both of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn; and brothers Russell, Max, Pete, and Robert “Claddy” McKeeman.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Rex’s name.
