Denty Rice, 86, a resident of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at his residence. He was born June 8, 1926, in Knobel, Ark., to the late Charles W. and Ida Rice.

A World War II Veteran of the Navy, he served aboard the USS Storm King from 1943 until 1946. He was a retired driver for Central Swallow Coach Lines of Greenfield, an operator of a private nursing home, and owned and operated rental properties locally. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and together with his wife they created a variety of crafts. He was an avid fisherman and small game hunter.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Shrake) Rice of Greenfield, sons, Dennis Rice, Don, and Gary Huffman of Greenfield; daughters, Judy Sharpe of Gulf Shores, Ala., Wanda Johnson, and Charlene Short both of Greenfield; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 5 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield with visitation from 2 p.m. until the service.

The Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Hancock County Humane Society, 214 East Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140 in Mr. Rice’s name.
