George A. Walker, 89, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at Kindred Healthcare in Greenfield. Born on April 19, 1923, in Hancock County, he was the son of Carl Addison Walker and Gertrude (Johnson) Welling. He married Cleopha (Andis) Walker on May 10, 1947.

George had proudly served in the Army; and worked as a printer pressman for the Greenfield Reporter and the Franklin Freemason for many years before retiring. He was a member of Amity United Methodist Church. George was quite the joker; he also enjoyed square dancing, roller skating, dogs, and all music-especially county.

Surviving him are his wife, Cleopha Walker of Greenfield; daughter, Stephanie (Michael) Mayes of Indianapolis; sister, Barbara Leary of Shelbyville; son-in-law, Vic West of Shirley; 2 granddaughters, Heidi (Jayson) Nunn of New Castle and Megan (Steve) Kendall of Shirley; 6 great-grandchildren, Bobbie, Ashtyn, Caitlyn, Shelby, Kegan and Trisdyn; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl Walker and Gertrude Welling; son, Jeffrey Lynn Walker; and daughter, Margo Sue West.

A graveside service, at the request of Mr. Walker, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Washington Park East Cemetery. Pastor Larry Bush will be officiating.
