Zelmar Johnson

Zelmar Johnson, 84, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Spring Hurst Health Center. He was born on June 21, 1927, in Russell County, Ky., the son of Virgil and Fannie (McClendon) Johnson.

Zelmar grew up on a farm and farmed for many years prior to working for Ford Motor Company. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1982, following 22 years of service and was a member of the UAW. He was a lifetime area resident and had lived at the same residence for 50 years. Zelmar was a member of the Knightstown Church of God for 45 years where he served as elder and deacon. Zelmar loved his church and it was the most important part of his life.

He leaves to cherish his memory four children, Carol (Michael) Colclazier of Knightstown, Mike (Carol) Johnson of New Castle, Mark (Kim) Johnson of Knightstown and Sandy (Mike) Snodgrass of Greenfield; grandchildren, Beth Stone of Knightstown, Danny Johnson of Knightstown, Rachel Johnson of Knightstown, Dustin Snodgrass of Greenfield, Krista Snodgrass of Greenfield, Michaela Johnson of New Castle; great grandchildren, Hannah Colclazier, Kendra Stone, Chasity Vaughn, Macy Colclazier; two great-great grandchildren, Toni and Harmony Richie; and a brother, Clarence Johnson of Willow Branch.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Johnson; brothers, Delmar and Ferris Johnson; sisters, Fay Lucas and Mary Davis; infant sisters, Regina Mae and Thelma Johnson; and a grandson, Stephen Colclazier.

 Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home, Knightstown Chapel. A service will be held at noon on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the funeral home with Reverends Early Hall, Elwood Evans and Tim Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
